A good way to increase your ranking and placement in the search engine return pages (SERPs) is to gain one-way links from directories. You can do this by submitting your site to as many directories as you can find. There are some directories that don't count for much but there is always a chance that the directory could become popular in the future and if you are already listed, you will have good placement if it ever happens.
There are many directories on the internet; some paid and some free. I can only advise you to do what you can afford. If you have a few bucks to invest, you can sign up for our directory submission service and get your site submitted to our list of directories (about 1000) with various titles and descriptions. We can also submit your site to a list of premium directories but prices will start to escalate for some of these like Yahoo! at $299.00 a year. But if you have the money, it may be a good way to jump up in the SERPs.
You can also opt to do this yourself if you don't have a budget to work with. All it takes is some time and effort to research directories and submit your information. Make sure to keep track of the directories you submit your site to so you can prevent duplicate submissions. |

| I signed up for your directory service when I first got my web-site. A few times I have signed up at some of the sites only to find out that you folks submitted my site (the 2nd submission gets rejected). It takes to long to look over the list of 1000 sites in order to see if you folks have already submitted me----it is easier to deal with an occasional rejection. |

I know what you mean about surfing through the list. Just be careful with submitting your site to directories that you have already been accepted in. Some directories will de-list you for trying to resubmit. If the directory has a search function, make sure to try that first.
Something you may be interested in doing is downloading notepad2.
http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html
This is a great program that allows you to do things notepad never thought of. You can save the report as a txt or html file and open it with notepad2. Once you open it, click "edit/find" and copy the web page url of the directory you want to submit to and click find. If you are unsure about the url, just type part of it and if it finds a match, you can open that url to see if it is the same directory.
The program will work very good for this type of situation and a search can be done faster than I explained how it works. |

| When submitting to directory's you need to make sure that the directories you submit to are quality. These days search engines take away ranking if they're plastered everywhere. |

| Yeah - you have to be really careful, especially when it comes to submitting to paid directories. If you choose the wrong ones, engines like Google blacklist your site, and it doesn't get listed at all. |

Don't be misled by all you hear. Have you ever heard the saying, don't believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see? Well with the internet, that half you believe is more like one millionth. Because that is about all that is true.
Google has never blacklisted anybody because a directory linked to their site. If someone says they got black-flagged for that, then the rest of the story is they were doing some black-hat seo, got busted and directories were an easy thing to blame it on so they wouldn't look like a cheat or crook to their associates and friends who seen their site was gone. Also, if it were that easy, your competitors would have you listed in every bad directory on the net and your site would be gone by the time it got indexed. But thanks to some very wise people, that's not going to happen.
And in addition, Google is not going to take rank away from you for the same reasons listed above. If a directory that is considered to be a bad directory links to your site, the worst that is going to happen is you just won't get any benefit from having the link.
The main thing to consider with directories is to make sure the directory is search engine friendly and allows the robots to crawl, index and follow links from the pages and don't get too many at one time. Getting a thousand links over-night is what makes you look like a spammer and causes you problems with ranking. Slow, steady and consistant will yield the best results.
Just remember, every directory started off small, including DMOZ, and evolved into what you see today. So by getting listed in directories now, you put yourself in a good position if the directory becomes popular later. |

| The only thing with link directories are you have to be careful that it is not a link farm and also that the place in which you are linking from is related to your website content. Otherwise you are more likely to make it harmful to your site than good. |

| I have had good luck with submitterbot.com. In the past I have contacted them when a directory was missing and they responded and removed the directory from their database. That is better than any other system I have tried. |

| Thanks for sharing your ideas to get one way link from directories. How many directory submissions per day do you suggest? Also share if you have good source for list of reputed directories. |
