I know most contractors don't know how to read html code. But there are some very easy lines in html that anyone can identify. Comment tags are one type of line that you can easily spot and erase. Comment tags sever not purpose in ranking. They do increase your code to text ratio though. So eliminating comment tags or at minimum, reducing them is advisible.
You can identify these tags by the way the tags are written. Here is an example comment tag:
<!-- START TABLE -->
The beginning of the tags starts with "<!--" with out the quotes of coarse, and ends with "-->" This is a typical comment tag. You should look at the code of your web pages and eliminate any such instances on comment tags you find. If you are unsure, just make sure you copy the page and save it to your computer before you change anything. That way if you delete the wrong thing, you can simply paste the code back to the original.
I am curious to know how many comment tags you see in the code of your site. Also let us know what program you are using to edit your site. |

Comment tags remind you why you included certain tags, style rules, or JavaScript functions. They make maintenance easier for you later. They're also invaluable to anyone who tries to maintain the site after you've designed it.Note the opening and closing characters. There shouldn't be any space between the opening tag, the exclamation point, and the two hyphens. There's also no space between the closing two hyphens and the closing tag.
Be careful if you're coding your page in a word processing program (like Microsoft Word) before transferring it to an HTML editor. Some word processors replace your hyphens and brackets with their own special characters. Turn that function off before you try to code HTML or you could get some really unexpected results on your page.
Thanks
