We try to track every lead source when client's call us. By doing so we are able to track our different ads and marketing efforts in order focus our efforts on what works. Sometimes people are exposed to more than one of our marketing efforts (mixed) and it is hard to assign credit to the proper source. I was wondering what other contractors do about this issue.
An example:
Client: We saw your trucks working down the street from us and the yard sign. We forgot your phone number but we found you on google.
That's a tough call and like I said in a previous post, sometimes you don't know that they saw your name other places before calling you from an Internet search or whatever.
I don't think there is a way to be completely accurate but considering some companies don't even track their advertising its still a big plus.
Normally if they elaborate on everywhere they saw my advertising, I'll just contribute the job to what ever source got the ball rolling. In your example I'd give it to the truck lettering or yard sign, whichever one they saw first.

I think it would make a lot of sense to go with where they remember seeing the first advertisement. But then again if that did not bring them in, then going with the one that brought them in for business is the way to go.
