Barry brought up football in another thread and it got me thinking about a baseball team that I sponsored this year. One of the area schools hit me up for $200 to sponsor a team. I was not looking at having my company name on the back of (20?) kids shirts as a lead source at the time. However I figured that one of the mothers might actually see my name when they washed the shirts.

I am going to call the fund raising guy prior to next year to talk to him about promoting the sponsors. My thought is to get all of the kids and their parents at the school for some sort of baseball meeting. At this meeting the sponsors could have card tables set up and the parents could thank the sponsors ask questions about their business'. Just an idea.

Has anyone here sponsored a team and if so do you get leads or just a good deed?

That is a very good way to get your business name out there and introduce yourself to build business associates. Good luck with this and hope that it all goes well for you. I have been supporting football for a number of years and it has brought some business for minor rebuilds or extra work as well.

I also sponser a bowling team. I gave each team member 2 shirts.
Cost was under $50, and my name is out there once a week.
I gave them 2 just in case they wear one outside of bowling, they
live in different areas. The league started 8 weeks ago, got 3 calls
from it.

Getting to the parents when they wash the uniforms is just the beginning of who will see those shirts. Most parents take their kids out to eat after the games and that means everyone in the restaurant sees your name as well. Plus if they stop at the store on the way home, swing by the kinfolk's house to brag on the game (or complain for that matter) and so on. You will also have you name in front of the entire crowd at the game. And not to be too hopeful, but if the team you sponsor is really good, they may end up at the state championship and you would then get your name plastered all over the local TV news channels. That is why sponsoring local high school football teams are so good because in a lot of areas, the news channels will have Friday night highlights of all of the games.

Well there are many benefits of sponsoring school teams and one is that you might be able to put a banner up at sporting events or offering some discounts or setup a table sometimes.

I am currently sponsoring a golf team at a local high school. Basically I buy them shirts, pants, hats, shoes, and bags. Clubs they will have to get on their own. I really only advertise on the back of their shirts, their bags, and on the back of their hats.

Its a great way to advertise and give back to the community. They don't mind it either because its less $$ for them to spend.

good job Chris. That is all it really takes to get some good business while showing support for local high school teams. I know there are some schools that do not allows sponsors in that capacity. Meaning putting there names on the sports wear but they allow banners and other sorts of advertising such at snack food areas, on things they give out to the crowd.
