Well there are many threads here in this forum topic, but I wanted to know when you can tell that it is time to replace your windows. Are there certain things you will see occur or after so many years or what?

Hi Jeannie

A lot of it is dependant on waht sort of window it is, where I live most places still have thier original sashe windows well over over 100 years old, they need maintainance every 20 years or so, but as long as the frames are sound there is not need to replace.

But as I said, wood, metal, UPVC they all will have different deterioration rates dependant on thier maintainence and the location (Arid, by the sea, tropical etc)

Well done, I appreciate your answer on this. Do you have a basic time frame as to the corrosion rate on the various types as you mentioned. Just general figures for example, your windows in old homes with maintenance every 20 years or so.

Increasingly, homeowners are replacing windows with new vinyl, fiberglass, wood, or metal windows instead of repairing their current wood windows. The reason for this is that replacement window companies and manufacturers have been offering lower prices on replacement windows in the last two decades, due to improved manufacturing techniques and the introduction of vinyl and fiberglass framed windows. It doesn't hurt to have a cheap workforce of window installers to install those replacement windows.
