I've recently joined my local Business Network International (BNI) chapter. BNI is a nationwide network group with thousands of chapters all over the United States.
The purpose and overview of BNI is to network and build a relationship with other company representatives and business owners in the community. Each learns the others profession and what services each provide so they are able to feel comfortable and confident in recommending each others services. Leads and referrals are exchanged at every meeting (usually once a week).
As a rule, only one person or representative from each industry is allowed. For instance, if there is a roofing contractor in the group no other roofing contractor can join.
Membership is normally 300-400 dollars per year. I've made back my investment and then some in only a short time.
Networking through BNI is just another marketing tool to use to set you apart from the competition which is always a good thing.
