This is kind of a blend between funny, dangerous and on vacation, so two out of three wins so I'm posting here.

A couple of years ago I was in Mexico on vacation and the timing was about three months after a major hurricane destroyed the area. There was construction going on everywhere and I knew I would get to see some interesting stuff.

In less than two miles from the resort, sure enough there it was, a worker with his legs straddled around the headache ball of a crane while being hoisted about forty feet in the air to work. I know this happens in the US but this was less than a hundred feet off of a major highway. We wouldn't make it five minutes before OSHA, the police and half the community showed up screaming. But it didn't seem to matter in Mexico.

I think Mexico might lack electrical codes. When we were there in June we saw 12-2 run outside without any conduit, exposed electrical boxes without covers and wires that were joined together with wire nuts and tape (no junction boxes. That was just the electrical, they like to use silicone to fix water leaks with their plumbing.

Interesting information there. I am sure that happens in many countries and not just in Mexico. I am sure that you are right about OSHA and everyone else including the media making a big deal out of it. After all it is their job. I bet it was fun to watch though. Glad no one was hurt.

Employee reviews are necessary to help document a construction employee's successes and failures with the construction employer. Successes should result in greater opportunities within the firm. Failures should be managed with additional training and instruction, behavior modification incentives, and warnings that let the construction employee know what will be accepted and what will not. Everything should be documented and included in the employee's permanent file.
