I get asked a lot by homeowners and guys wanting to get into the cleaning and house washing industry about waste water. On residential house washing, it is not necessary to reclaim any of the waste water as long as the house is surrounded by yard be it dirt, grass, landscaping, or whatever.
The soil will filter the dirty house cleaner and water run off. As long as your house cleaner is biodegradable and environmental safe, there is no worry about the dirty water run off. If the dirty water ever did make it all the way to a street storm drain, it will be clean water by the time it gets there. There is no better filter than the earth.
Now washing a building surrounded by concrete or an asphalt parking lot is a different situation. If the water is running into a storm drain in the parking lot or out in the street, then you have to block the drain. An EPA approved drain block will stop water from entering the drain. Once the building wash is complete the pool of dirty waste water must be sucked up and hauled to an EPA approved waste water disposal area.
