I have a small, oddsized window that has not been replaced since 1954 (no, I did not live here then!). I can't decide if it is cheaper to lose heat out of this window or to pay the extra cost to have it custom made. Is there a formula I could use to make my decision?

There is not a real formula that I consider accurate but considering the low cost and energy efficiency of vinyl replacement window as compared to the single pane wood windows of that era, you would surely save money by replacing it.

All you have to do is have a contractor look at it and give you an estimate to see how much it would be to replace. Then see how much money you could be saving by getting this energy efficient window. There is no exact formula for figuring out exactly how much you will save, but being an energy efficient window will help in the long run, especially when you're ready to sell the house.

There is not a perfect formula to decide this. It depends on you that how much you heat you want in your room and how much light. You should ask a installer about this and he will tell you the cost about this.
