Even though I don't sell windows anymore, I have sold a ton of replacement windows. The way that worked for me was to promote the less expensive double pane windows and if the customer was willing to spend more money and invest into energy efficiency, I would start moving the sell toward triple pane windows.

I found this to be a lot better tactic and sold a lot more windows this way. Let's face it, there are a lot more people who can afford to pay $300 a window than can pay $500 plus for triple pane windows.

For $300 a window they would need to measure it own their own, drive to my shop to sign the contract and install the windows on their own.

Labor rates in this part of the country are very high for a properly trained installer. Some places get away with paying $40 per window, I can not find a great installer for under $75 per window.

Most of our garbage goes to transfer stations that charge up to $100 per ton with minumum charges $60+ per load. My "local" landfill is 30 minutes away. It costs me 2 hours for someone to make a trip plus $30 in direct vehicle overhead.

Insurance, workers comp, lead cost and all of the little expenses would consume every penny of profit out of a $300 install unless the window itself was free.

I don't resell windows, but from an energy efficency value to my customers we offer triple glazed, but when the quote is handed over and the clinet looks to make saving we will comprmize on the windows, but we still point out the value of triple over double (That does make sense right?)
