Many people ask; is really necessary to have your house washed? My answer to this is always; anything that is exposed to Mother Nature will eventually get dirty. If you want to keep natural contaminants like dirt, mold, and mildew from rotting and decaying the materials that make up your home then yes, it is necessary to have your home's exterior washed.

Years ago when aluminum siding first hit the market it was sold as maintenance free. Years later vinyl siding was also falsely sold the same way. Sadly, there are products on the market today like composite materials and vinyl decking and fencing that is sold in the same manner. Like stated above, nothing is maintenance free that is exposed to the elements.

This poor and dishonest way of marketing these surfaces is probably the biggest contributor to home owners not thinking that their home needs to be cleaned every couple of years. House washing every year is not uncommon in hot and humid climates. Today the Vinyl Siding Institute (V.S.I) recognizes that vinyl is not maintenance free. They even offer guidelines and tips for cleaning vinyl siding. House washing is an important part of your home's overall maintenance and can really help to keep up the value. Professional house washing is a service that is available in most communities.

I agree about the washing of vinyl, I have vinyl and have to clean it once or twice a year due to the mold and algae in my area.

We are on the Gulf Of Mexico so lots of humidity all year long and the best environment for mold and algae growth.

People have looked for many years for a preventative to stop the mold and algae but so far there has not been anything that has worked, including chemicals to mix with the paint that sells for around $150.00 per gallon.

People just need to understand that their home is like their car, it needs to be cleaned as needed but not as often. It is their biggest investment but is often overlooked when it comes to exterior cleaning.

Great point Chris,

Homes are obviously a much larger investment than vehicles, so it only makes sense to at least spend a little having your home power washed every year or two.

Yeah vehicles are moving around and get more dirty but anything that is exposed to Mother Nature, like a home, will get dirty over time.

Exterior house washing is very inexpensive and can add instant value and curb appeal to your home.

Being in this business, I am almost obsessed with keeping my vinyl siding spot free. The first time I see a spider web or or any bird deposits, I fire up the machine. My neighbors are beginning to think that their homes need cleaned 6 times a summer...
