Would it be a lot of trouble to change our front door DIY, because the house has settled some. We know this because there is a 1/4 inch gap at the bottom where light can actually shine thru. Or is this a problem bigger than we realize right now?

Settlement can be a huge issue. Replacing the door only covers up the problem for now. You should have the foundation inspected to see what's causing it to sink and to what extent. Some companies have equipment that can lift the house back up which could close the gap back up.

My house is on a slab. Is there anyway to check the foundation to see if it has settled? The house is also brick. I noticed that there is an area where a few bricks have cracked along the mortar.
