| Some sites get higher rankings only because of the keywords used in the domain. If the user is searching for freebies then domains with name freebies.com would get better rankings. However finding the correct domain name can be a very difficult business. |

This is one of the most important things about a domain name that needs to be remembered. If your keywords aren't in your domain name, it'll make it harder to find your site during a web search. |

Here's a little information about domain names that ranks. I realize the initial thread was from a year a go. Anyways, as of right now keywords in domain plays a small part for increasing your ranking.
If you're trying to rank locally, you can get rank fairly quickly with a little backlinks for whatever keyword phrases that you're going after. (must be low competition)
If you're in a very competive market, the keyword in the domain name will not do a thing, You have to put in the elbow grease to get enough backlinks to rank.

Domain name plays a vital role as far as page ranking in a search engine is concerned. There is no doubt about that. This alone is not going to help you to top the list. You need good back up with additional links etc. Pay attention to that too. It is better to have a holistic approach rather than concentrating on only one aspect of the SEO techniques.

domain name can have a big impact on the image and prestige of your company and also has an influence on the success of your activities on the world wide web. At present there is not a great deal of regulation controlling who can have what domain name. This is good in one sense since it gives a company freedom to choose the most appropriate name. However it also means that the name or names you want can easily be registered by someone else, even if those names have less relevance to them than to you. If you are too late with your registration the chance to choose the name you want may possibly be lost forever!
