Did you know what works for Google doesn't necessarily work for Yahoo! or Live (MSN)? This is the main reason you see sites that rank in the top five for a given keyword on Yahoo! but can't be found on Google for that same keyword.

When you optimize your site, there are basics that you do for every site for every search engine. Then there are the parameters that you must fulfill with each search engine.

One way to find out how to meet the requirements of both is to research the sites that currently rank in the top five positions for the keyword or phrase you want to rank for. Analyze the titles, descriptions, "H" tags, how often they use the keyword on the page and what the density of usage is for the keyword. This will help you determine how the content on your site needs to be setup.

There are way too many factors to list here but this will help you with your onpage optimization. Working out your internal link structure will also play a big role in how your site ranks but again, way to much for a forum post.

So anyway, which search engine is your site optimized for? What percent of your traffic comes from Google and from Yahoo or MSN?
