Making A Link Building Plan

One of the most important factors for placing higher in the search engine results pages (SERPs) is link popularity. If there is a page of your site that is not showing up as high in the SERPs as you would like and the page has useful, original and optimized content, then building quality inbound links into the page may be all that is needed to acheive higher search engine rankings.

There are various ways you can build links and yes, some links are better than others but concentrating on building a variety of links is always the best policy for long term stability in the search results.

What this means is you shouldn't go out and get nothing but links from blogs or only do article marketing. Instead, you should setup a plan based on your time and budget that consists of getting links from multiple media formats.

You make this type of plan by first determining how much time everyone you'll have working on marketing the site will spend doing so each week or month. So to keep it simple, let's say only one person will be doing the work and they will spend 1 hour each weekday marketing the website. Now you can start breaking that time down into individual task.

Here is an example of how that time could be best spent:

  • Monday - 1 Hour - Write articles that will be submitted to article directories
  • Tuesday - 1 Hour - Submit written articles to directories and also submit your site to web directories
  • Wednesday - 1 Hour - Write and submit blog posts to programs like our Share-Blog-Post program
  • Thursday - 1 Hour - Post useful info on forums related to your site and never use a signature (Explained Later)
  • Friday - 1 Hour - Social bookmark your site and the articles, blog posts and forum pages you've created

This type of link building plan will get you links from article directories, web directories, blogs, forums and social networks. Additionally, it will ensure that the pages get indexed quickly and actually have some link popularity which comes from social bookmarking them at places like Reddit, Facebook and Digg.

Another key to this plan is the part about not using signature links on the forums. What I mean by this is don't use the automated signature which becomes a global that shows up on every post you make. Instead, manually create your signature so you can link it to various pages of your site that are most related to the forum topic you are posting on. This requires a little more effort but it allows you to create links to all of your internal pages with an unlimited variation of anchor text used for the links.

The final part of your plan relates back to your budget. You need to establish one regardless of how much it is. It really doesn't matter if it's $10 a week or $500, as long as you have a set number, then you can make a plan for what internet marketing you can afford to buy and how often. I know plenty of people with $50 a month budgets that buy basic blog review packages every three months and get great results from the added link boost.

So that's it for today's lesson on how to build links and we welcome your feedback on the topic. Make sure to check back soon as we'll be adding more link building tips in the weeks to come.
